Security of Dangerous Goods

Since the attacks on the World Trade Centre and the terrorist bombings in London, Madrid and Bali, international security has become paramount. These considerations also apply to Dangerous Goods transport, to prevent the theft and misuse of these potentially devastating materials.

Chapters dealing with security have been added to all the international Dangerous Goods legislation, and the requirements of these provisions is a mandatory aspect on all training undertaken. The IMDG Code also has a companion publication, The International Ship and Port Security (ISPS) Code.

The United Nations has compiled a list of "High Consequence Dangerous Goods" that could potentially cause the greatest destruction or loss of life if they were to be used misused. These materials are shown in the table opposite. Additionally, there are lists of materials that can act as, or be pre-cursors to, the production of chemical weapons. The transport and supply of these materials is monitored or restricted in certain States.

Any company involved in the production, storage or transport of these High Consequence goods must implement the requirements of a written Security Plan, and train all their staff commensurate with their duties in it.

At RoadSafe Europe, we can assist in all aspects of your security planning, implementation and training. Due to the nature of some of our business, our key consultant and trainer has been fully security vetted under the anti-terrorism legislation, and is known to the DfT security division and VOSA.
